How we define the equipment categories |
| Lower cost band sawmills best for farm, small acreage, or personal use | |
| Mills with automatic carriage feed, some with automatic setworks, but do not include log handling hydraulics. These mills are best for less labor-intensive personal use or for limited custom sawing. | |
Mills that include hydraulic log loading, turning, clamping, and some with hydraulic toe boards/taper for ease of operation and custom sawing |

Higher end mills and complete operations for greater production, custom sawing, and commercial lumber manufacturing. |
